Origin sells on three things that are not the price of electricity: Everyday Rewards points, no lock-in contracts, and a decent app. Whether that adds up to a reason to switch depends entirely on whether the underlying rates hold up. Unpacking the Everyday Rewards Partnership
The Everyday Rewards tie-in is Origin's headline feature. Your power bill earns points you spend at Woolworths and the other participating retailers, which is worth real money if you shop there anyway.
Sign-up bonuses are the big number. Promotions have offered thousands of points for connecting electricity, more again for bundling gas, and into the tens of thousands if you add internet. Those offers change, so check what is running when you sign rather than what was advertised last quarter.
To collect, you need an active Everyday Rewards membership linked to the plan at sign-up, and you generally have to stay at least 30 days. Give them the membership number when you join. Adding it afterwards is harder than it should be.
Ongoing points accrue against your consumption. Where billing data is not available yet, Origin uses estimated data so points still accrue. Keep the membership current and linked, or the points stop. One Everyday Rewards account can link to several energy plans, which is useful if you manage more than one property.
If you already shop at Woolworths every week, this is genuine value on a bill you cannot avoid. If you do not, it is worth nothing and you should ignore it entirely.
Flexibility and Transparency: Freedom from Lock-in Contracts
No lock-in contracts and no exit fees. You can leave when a better offer appears, which in a market where rates move every year is worth more than most sign-up bonuses.
Plans typically run an initial 12-month period from your supply start date, but Origin can change usage charges, supply charges, add-ons and solar feed-in tariffs during that term. They will tell you when they do. So the flexibility runs both ways: they can move the price, and you can leave.
Energy Fact Sheets and full plan terms are published, so you can read the whole thing before committing. Note that the estimated yearly cost Origin quotes shifts with your tariff type and network area, and your real bill will land wherever your consumption puts it.

Origin has a stated ambition of net-zero Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions across its value chain by 2050. It is a long-dated target rather than a current claim, so weigh it accordingly.
The Verdict: Is Origin Worth Switching For?
You might find Origin appealing if:
- You're an active Everyday Rewards member: Points on an unavoidable bill are real money if you already shop there.
- You value flexibility: No lock-in and no exit fees means a bad deal costs you nothing to leave.
- You appreciate digital tools: The app makes consumption visible, which is how you actually reduce it.
- You want transparency: Fact Sheets and terms are published and readable.
- You support long-term environmental goals: The 2050 net-zero commitment is on record.
None of that beats a cheaper tariff. Compare Origin's usage rate, daily supply charge and solar feed-in tariff against your current plan using your own annual consumption, in your own network area. If Origin is dearer per kilowatt-hour than what you are on, the points will not cover the difference.
Work out what the perks are worth in dollars per year. Then compare rates. That order, not the other way around.
